Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how Deali(“Deali,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, shares, and protects your personal information when you use the Deali mobile app for iOS and Android and related services (the “Service”). Please read it carefully. By using Deali, you agree to the practices described here.
1. Introduction
Deali helps you stop overpaying. You can scan product barcodes or photos to find the best prices across stores, browse local flyer deals and coupons, set savings goals, and join community “Groups” to share deals and chat with other shoppers.
This policy applies to the Deali apps for iOS and Android and any services that link to it. It does not apply to third-party products or websites that we do not control.
2. Information we collect
Information you provide to us
- Account information: your email address, full name, and profile photo/avatar. You can sign up using email/password, Sign in with Apple, or Google Sign-In.
- Profile data: your postal/ZIP code, savings goal, in-app preferences (for example, dark mode), and a referral code.
- Scans you capture: product names, brands, barcodes, prices, stores, and product images you photograph or upload when scanning.
- Community content: messages, images, and shared deals you post in Groups, which are visible to other members of that group.
- Feature requests: feature ideas and votes you submit to our in-app roadmap, which are visible to other Deali users.
Information collected automatically
- Location: with your permission, your device location is used while you are using the app to find flyer deals and prices near you. We convert your location to a postal/ZIP code and store only that postal code in your profile — we do not store your precise coordinates.
- Scan history:some of your scan history is stored locally on your device; some scan data is synced to our backend so it's available across sessions.
- Subscription and purchase records: your Deali Pro subscription status and related purchase records.
- Notification settings: whether you have allowed notifications, so the app can show you alerts you enable. Alerts are generated on your device; we do not currently collect a push notification token.
Information from third parties
- Sign-in providers: if you choose Sign in with Apple or Google Sign-In, we receive basic profile information (such as your name and email) from those services to create and authenticate your account.
- Purchase processors: we receive your subscription status and purchase confirmations from our payment and subscription providers and the app store.
De-identified and aggregated information
We may aggregate or de-identify information so that it no longer reasonably identifies you. We may use and retain de-identified or aggregated information for any purpose permitted by law, and we will not attempt to re-identify it except as required or permitted by law.
3. How we use your information
- Provide, operate, and maintain the Service.
- Identify products you scan, find prices, and surface coupons and nearby deals.
- Show local flyer deals and prices based on your location.
- Create and manage your account, profile, savings goals, and preferences.
- Enable community Groups, including posting and sharing deals and messages.
- Process subscriptions and in-app purchases.
- Send price-drop alerts and notifications you opt into.
- Maintain security, prevent fraud and abuse, and comply with legal obligations.
5. AI processing
Barcode scans. When you scan a barcode, only the barcode number is sent to a product-data provider to look up the product — your camera image never leaves your device.
Photo scans.When you scan a product by photo, the app first runs an on-device recognition step. To identify the product, a resized copy of your photo is then sent through our secure server gateway to our AI provider (Google's Gemini API), which returns the product name. The product name is also sent as a text query to find current prices and coupons. These requests require a signed-in account, are rate-limited, and include only what is needed to perform the scan — never your name, email, or location.
Images and text sent for AI processing are handled by the provider under its own terms and security practices. We do not use your photos to train our own AI models.
6. Camera, photos, location & notifications
Deali requests the following device permissions. Each is optional, requested only when needed, and can be changed at any time in your device settings:
- Camera: used to scan barcodes and products.
- Photo library: used to scan products from existing photos you select.
- Location: used only while you are using the app to find flyer deals and prices near you.
- Notifications: used to send price-drop alerts and other updates you enable.
If you revoke a permission, the related feature may stop working, but you can continue to use the rest of the app. Deali does not request access to your microphone or contacts.
7. Data retention and storage
We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service, comply with our legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. Account and profile data, synced scans, and community content are stored on our backend (Supabase).
Some of your scan history is stored locally on your device and remains there until you delete it or remove the app. Product images you save may be stored in our backend file storage. When you delete your account, we delete your associated data as described below.
If another member reports content you posted in Groups, we keep a snapshot of the reported content for moderation and safety review, even if you later edit or delete the original message or your account.
International data transfers
Deali is operated from, and uses service providers located in, the United States and other countries. As a result, your personal information may be processed in countries whose data protection laws differ from those where you live. Where required, we take appropriate steps to protect your information when it is transferred internationally.
8. How we protect your information
We maintain reasonable technical, organizational, and administrative safeguards designed to protect the personal information under our control against loss, misuse, and unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, or destruction. These include encrypting data in transit, restricting access to personal information, and relying on reputable infrastructure providers.
No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so while we work to protect your information, we cannot guarantee its absolute security. If you believe your account or data is no longer secure, please contact us at privacy@getdeali.app.
9. Your rights and choices
Depending on where you live, you may have some or all of the following rights over your personal information:
- Access and portability — request a copy of the personal information we hold about you, in a portable format.
- Correction — ask us to correct inaccurate or incomplete information.
- Deletion — request that we delete your personal information.
- Restriction or objection — ask us to limit or stop certain processing of your information.
- Withdraw consent — where we rely on your consent (for example, location or notifications), you can withdraw it at any time.
- Non-discrimination — we will not discriminate against you for exercising your rights.
- Appeal — where applicable, appeal a decision we make about your request.
How to exercise your choices
- Delete your account in the app: you can permanently delete your account and its associated data at any time from the Profile tab (Delete Account). This action is irreversible.
- Delete your account without the app:if you can't access the app, you can request deletion of your account and associated data by emailing privacy@getdeali.app — you do not need to reinstall the app to make this request. After deletion, we may retain limited information only where the law requires (for example, for tax, security, or fraud-prevention purposes), as described in Data retention and storage.
- Manage permissions: change camera, photo, location, and notification access in your device settings.
- Contact us: to exercise any right above, email privacy@getdeali.app. We may need to verify your identity before responding, and you may use an authorized agent where the law allows.
10. Children's privacy
Deali is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, please contact us at privacy@getdeali.app and we will take steps to delete it.
11. Regional privacy rights
California (CCPA/CPRA)
If you are a California resident, you have the right to know what personal information we collect, to access or delete it, to correct it, to limit the use of sensitive personal information, and to not be discriminated against for exercising these rights. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. The categories of personal information we collect are:

We disclose these categories only to the categories of service providers described in How we share information, for the business purposes described in How we use your information.
Canada (PIPEDA)
If you are in Canada, you have the right to access your personal information and to challenge its accuracy. We collect, use, and disclose personal information in accordance with the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and obtain consent where required.

12. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Effective date” above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app. Your continued use of Deali after an update means you accept the revised policy.
